The Driving Standards Agency (DSA) recommend 44 hours of professional lessons to pass a driving test, everyone learns at their own pace so this is only an average figure.
Your lessons can be one, one and a half or two hours long depending on your availability and your driving instructors.
Automatic vehicles are easier to learn in and if you have a disability or limited mobility they will probably be the best choice for you. However if you pass your driving test in an automatic vehicle your licence will only allow you to drive an automatic, if you pass your driving test in a manual vehicle you are legally allowed to drive manual and automatic.

“Sandor (Alex) at 1st Driving School has been a fantastic instructor from the get go, very knowledgeable and professional. I had given driving lessons a go previously in 2021 but my then instructor put me off carrying on. Essentially having to start again from scratch in June last year, Sandor encouraged me every step of the way, no matter how frustrated I got in the early days. Fast forward to now and I’ve passed first time with one minor. Trust the process, trust Sandor and trust 1st Driving School.”
“I had an excellent learning experience with Mr. Julian Barker. He is a patient and professional instructor who helped me gain confidence and improve my driving skills. I’m very grateful for his guidance and would highly recommend him to anyone learning to drive.”
“My driving instructor was Kevin and he was great. Did manual lessons for a few months and passed first time with only 6 minors! Definitely recommend.”
“Massive thanks to Mohammed, really good driving instructor. Was really patient and big reason on why I passed.”
